23.07.202601:07:46UTC+00U.S. Targets Interim North America Trade Pacts

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer told the Senate Finance Committee that he aims to secure interim trade arrangements with Canada and Mexico by the end of the year, while postponing more contentious revisions to the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement until 2027. Greer noted that complex matters—such as tighter automotive rules of origin, enhanced labor standards, and strengthened environmental regulations—will require extensive consultation, “including with Congress in the following year.” He emphasized that the U.S. is “moving with all due speed” and plans to present options to President Donald Trump, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney before December, though he did not specify the scope of the potential agreements.
